This is the 3rd time I was traveling in Argentina. Every time, the ARS:USD rate dropped.

First time: Brief cross over to Iguazu Falls (Argentina side), 1USD = 9ARS.

Second time: Ushuaia. 1USD = 15 ARS.

This time: Trekking in El Chalten and Perito Moreno Glacier in El Calafate. 1USD = 65 ARS.

The first time, I flew from Lima to Iguazu by LAN (LAN merged with TAM to form LATAM a few years after). The second time, I took Qatar Airways from Singapore to Doha, then flew to Sao Paolo for a brief layover (passengers remained on plane) before flying to Buenos Aires on the same plane, and took Aerolinas Argentina to Ushuaia the next day.

This time, I took a slightly different route. I flew SQ to Johannesburg on A350. Then 6+ hours of transit before the LATAM flight from Joberg to Sao Paolo on A350 took off. Because of the shorter route in the Southern Hemisphere, I ended up reaching Sao Paolo earlier than the Qatar Airway flight. Then from Sao Paolo, i took another LATAM flight to Buenos Aires, no hot meal served on flight (Qatar served hot meal on the same route). Then from Buenos Aires, a LATAM domestic flight will take around 3.5 hours to fly to El Calafate the next day. From El Calafate, one has to drive 213km North to El Chalten. There was no gas station in between. I rented a car from Avis and drove to El Chalten, so that I could take pictures along the way.

I did a few trekings in El Chalten, namely the short walk to Mirador Condor and Mirador Las Aguilas, followed by longer trek to see Laguna Torre and the sunrise long hike to see Laguna de Los Tres and Mount Fitz Roy.

In El Calafate, I joined the Big Ice Hike in Perito Moreno Glacier. It was a memorable experience. The hostel that I stayed with, American Del Sur Hostel, was fun.

In Buenos Aires, the temperature was much higher than El Chalten and El Calafate. People are spending time in water parks and in the green space, which Buenos Aires has plenty. The people there are lucky to have so many recreation space.
